Carbon Reduction Commitment - Implications for the data centre sector
03.07.09
In March the Department of Energy and Climate Change published the Draft Carbon Reduction Commitment Order 2010, together with its latest consultation paper. This has shed further light on how the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme is likely to work and what action energy consumers need to take now and in the near future to ensure compliance.
Data centre operators who recharge energy costs to their customers are likely to be caught by the CRC. This could have significant financial implications for those operators, as the costs of participating in the scheme may not be recoverable from customers.
