'Fit notes' to be introduced from 6 April

The demise of the sick note as we have known it for more than 60 years is nigh! The existing sick note will be replaced with a new Statement of Fitness for Work, the so-called 'fit note'.

Following a consultation on revision of the sick note system which closed back in August, the Government has finally published its response and the final version of the draft regulations. The new fit notes will come into effect on 6 April, despite misgivings from both employers and GPs that insufficient time has been allowed for them to familiarise themselves with the new forms.
