Charity of the Year

Wragge & Co people voted Alzheimer's Society as the firm's charity of the year 2012.

Alzheimer's Society is the leading support and research charity for people living with dementia, their families and carers. It provides information and more than 2,000 services to help the 750,000 people affected by the condition in the UK. The charity also funds research into the causes of dementia, investigating good practice in care and treatment, and pursuing a cure.

Head of corporate responsibility, Lorna Gavin, says, "We are excited to be partnering Alzheimer's Society as part of our community investment programme during 2012. There are many types of dementia and Alzheimer's is the most common, with a growing number of young and elderly people living with some form of dementia. Many of us will know someone who has been affected by it."

"With Alzheimer's Society as our charity of the year, we will be able to give tangible support to, and raise awareness of, a cause that is close to many people's hearts. Having successfully raised more than £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support last year, we are looking forward to another jam-packed year of fundraising to help make a real difference to Alzheimer's Society."

Beckie Smith, Alzheimer's Regional Corporate Partnerships Manager, adds, "We are very excited that Wragge & Co has chosen Alzheimer's Society as its 2012 charity of the year. Sadly, dementia is where cancer was 20 years ago: stigmatised, misunderstood and hidden from the public eye with no cure. Through this partnership we will be helping to change this, and we are looking forward to working together."

Wragge & Co will support Alzheimer's Society throughout 2012. A wide range of fundraising events are in the pipeline, including dress down days, a sponsored cycle ride, coffee mornings and a quiz.
