Looking for tax lawyers that can mix technical legal know-how with practical advice?
This team, a core element of the Corporate group, has specialists to deal with all aspects of tax for business, from structuring acquisitions and disposals to implementing the most suitable and efficient share schemes. Its lawyers cut through the complexity to tell clients what they actually need to do, in plain English.
Experienced in dealing with the day-to-day tax issues that arise on all sorts of transactions, this team's expertise ranges from substantial shareholdings relief; employee-related securities; and VAT to transfer pricing. They make sure tax isn't a spanner in the works, complicating matters and holding up transactions.
Praised for its "technical knowledge, commercial realism and innovative solutions to problems" (Legal 500 2009), the team provides an in-house tax consultancy service, supporting deals and projects across the Corporate group and the rest of the firm. This includes share and asset sales and acquisitions, tax advice on the implementation of group reorganisations, licensing and royalty arrangements, loan and asset finance transactions, share schemes, employment-related taxes and outsourcing. Involved early in a transaction, they help steer clients away from potential tax-traps.
Wragge & Co's corporate tax experts offer a "comprehensive and ongoing advisory service to a list of major clients" (Chambers 2010). The team are also asked for their views on tax structuring advice given by other advisers. Its specialists explain the commercial and practical implications of the proposed path.
For international work, the team handles the UK aspects and acts as the link between a client and a network of trusted local law firms.
The team keeps its ear to the ground through associations and memberships of UK bodies. Kevin Lowe, known for his "straightforward, no-nonsense, easy-to-understand approach to tax issues" (Legal 500 2009), is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Kevin and Neil Pearson are authors of three chapters in Sweet & Maxwell's Private Equity Transactions.
The corporate tax team works in conjunction with Wragge & Co's dedicated Real Estate Tax team.
