Wragge & Co LLP Planning team has been appointed by Warwick District Council to act on the compulsory purchase order for the new Chandos Street Shopping Centre in Leamington Spa. The shopping centre scheme involves approximately 200,000 sq ft of new retail space, a new shopper's car park and a small number of flats.

Planning partner Karen Howard leads the Wragge & Co team assisted by associate Eleanor Penn. The team had been recommended by the council's development partner, Wilson Bowden, who it had already been advising on the project.

Karen said: "Wragge & Co has a strong reputation in planning. Providing commercially sound and clear planning advice to developers, landowners, house builders and retailers, the team is involved in a wide ranging nature of schemes. We are very much looking forward to working with Warwick District Council on this exciting project."

John Archer, head of planning at Warwick District Council, said: "Development of a new scheme will sustain the position of Leamington as an important retail centre and maintain its competitive edge against many other centres in the area that are undergoing expansion and redevelopment. Wragge & Co already understands the project and is working successfully with Wilson Bowden. Its involvement in the compulsory purchase order will help to keep the project running smoothly."

Wragge & Co's 15-strong Planning team is described by Legal 500 as having "great expertise and strength". A strong pedigree in working with local authorities and their development partners, the team secures the delivery of town and city centre regeneration schemes, such as acting for Cambridge City Council in the £150 million Grand Arcade scheme. Other local authority planning clients include Slough Borough Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
