Wragge & Co LLP Intellectual Property (IP) team has been named European High-Tech Law Firm of the Year by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP).

The ten-partner team saw off competition from Bird & Bird LLP, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Howrey LLP and Lovells LLP to seal its reputation as Europe's leading high-tech IP practice. MIP announced the winners at an awards ceremony in London on 31 March 2009.

Senior partner Quentin Poole said: "This is a fantastic recognition of Wragge & Co's high-quality intellectual property practice. In 2008, the team opened an office in Munich to strengthen its international offering. Technical excellence, outstanding client service and an impressive client list continue to make it stand out in the European market."

Head of high-tech David Barron said: "A really strong team effort on some ground-breaking cases in the high-tech sector helped us to achieve this impressive result. It's particularly rewarding since our inclusion in the shortlist is based on feedback from clients and peers."

MIP is a publication dedicated to the international IP market. Its annual awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of leading law firms in the field of IP. Winners are selected by the editorial team following research and a ballot of IP professionals conducted as part of MIP's annual World IP Survey. The firm secured tier two rankings in this year's survey for contentious trademark and patent advice.

Wragge & Co's 40-strong IP team advises UK and international clients on a range of contentious and non-contentious issues. Latest highlights include advising Dyson on its successful High Court case against Samsung Gwangju Electronics Co Limited. The team also secured victory for Premium Aircraft Interiors UK Limited (Contour) in a landmark patent and design rights case against Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited. Clients include British Airways, Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Birds Eye, Microsoft and Kingspan.
