Wragge & Co LLP has been appointed sole pensions law adviser to the trustees of the £220 million Biffa Pension Scheme. Partner Richard Black and associate Joanne Tibbott secured the appointment, having previously advised the trustees in relation to Waste Acquisition Co Limited's takeover of Biffa Plc last year.

Richard Black said: "As pensions experts we want to provide our clients with timely and focused advice in plain English. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the trustees on the takeover and this further appointment is a great opportunity for us to showcase our commitment to providing that client service to such a well-known leading UK company."

Chairman of trustees, Keith Jones, said: "The Wragge & Co team has already demonstrated its ability to provide the trustees with focused and commercial advice. The trustees look forward to working with Wragge & Co on the challenges faced by the scheme in the future."

Biffa Plc is one of the UK's leading waste service providers, providing waste collection, treatment and recycling and disposal services. In the financial year to March 2008, it generated revenues of £776.5 million. Its scheme covers around 5,000 active, deferred and pensioner members.

This appointment is one of four high-profile appointments this year. The award-winning team has also been instructed to advise the trustee of KPMG's £600 million UK pension schemes as well as the trustees of the £120 million Fujitsu Comparable Pension Scheme.

Wragge & Co's six-partner Pensions team is the European Pensions Law Firm of the Year. One of the UK's largest dedicated pensions law practices, its 35 lawyers provide commercial legal advice to employers, trustees and institutional clients on a range of contentious and non-contentious pensions matters.
