Fraudulent emails

09.09.09 Share

Wragge & Co is aware that over recent weeks many people have been receiving fraudulent emails purporting to involve Trevor Gibson, a member of this firm. So far as we are aware, the scam works as follows.

A property is advertised to let, and once a prospective tenant contacts the landlord, the prospective tenant is asked to transfer a significant amount of money to a third party. The "Landlord" will state that evidence of this transfer is required upfront by "his Barrister Trevor Gibson" and will provide an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement and Refund Policy Agreement allegedly prepared by Barrister Trevor Gibson/Wragge & Co. The fraudster then uses the evidence of the transfer to collect the money.

These emails are fraudulent. Neither Trevor Gibson nor Wragge & Co has any knowledge of, or involvement with, the purported lettings. If you receive such an email, we suggest that you report the matter to your local police and do not send any money, provide the details of any transfer or supply your bank details.
