Wragge & Co announces turnover of £96 million

Wragge & Co announces turnover for the 2009/10 financial year of £96.2 million, a decrease of 7% from last year's £103.4 million.

Managing partner Ian Metcalfe said: "Our clients continue to feel the effects of a turbulent economic climate. We're working hard to help them; looking at fee arrangements, sharing risk and adding value through commercial thinking or innovative problem solving. Turnover is down, but we are making investments now for the firm's long-term prosperity."

One such investment is Wragge & Co's new Paris office. Opened on 1 April, the 10-partner office is already winning work and providing clients with top-quality advice on corporate, real estate, funds, tax, finance, dispute resolution, corporate recovery, IP, commercial and projects matters.

The firm strengthened its Munich offering with a first overseas partner promotion in Dr. Alexander Bayer. Dr. Bayer joins Michael Schneider as a second intellectual property partner in Munich, enhancing Wragge & Co's cross-border IP capability. Also promoted are Paul Carberry and Sue Ryan boosting core areas of expertise - pensions and construction.

Three new partners joined from other firms. Wragge & Co added to its City-based corporate practice with a new private equity partner - David Marshall from Travers Smith. Bevan Brittan LLP senior litigation partner Tom Ellis joined the firm. Gateley Wareing partner Vicki Conway moved to Wragge & Co to head the Birmingham arm of its national corporate recovery practice.

Other highlights from the past 12 months include award wins for the Pensions team. The firm's pensions experts picked up two awards: Pensions Lawyers of the Year award at the UK Pensions Awards and Pensions Law Firm of the Year at the Pensions & Investment Provider Awards.

Wragge & Co received a major accolade when it was named the number one national firm in Legal Week's Client Satisfaction Report. Based on the responses of in-house lawyers and finance directors at nearly 700 companies, Wragge & Co scored 9.4 out of 10 for quality of legal advice and 9 out of 10 for service delivery.

It also retained its top 50 ranking as one of the UK best workplaces; one of only two organisations to appear in the top 50 for ten consecutive years.

As of 1 July 2010, UK-headquartered international firm Wragge & Co has 124 partners operating from six offices: Birmingham, Brussels, Guangzhou, London, Munich and an affiliated office in Paris. Wragge & Co is an all-equity partnership.

Profit margin and profits per partner figures will be confirmed later this year once the firm's accounts have been audited. In accordance with Limited Liability Partnership regulations, Wragge & Co's accounts will be filed with the Registrar of Companies in due course.
