Wragge & Co LLP has underlined its commitment to providing a top-quality partner-led service to the UK's biggest pension schemes with the appointment of a new partner.

Pensions director Paul Carberry joins the firm's all-equity partnership on 1 May. His promotion, which follows those of Richard Lee in 2008 and Paul Feathers in 2007, takes the total number of pensions partners to seven.

Head of pensions Glyn Ryland said: "Paul is a typical Wragge & Co pensions lawyer. He provides the highest standards of technical expertise in a down-to-earth, commercial way. Paul has been an important part of our continued growth, helping Wragge & Co become an established and respected name among the top tier of pensions law firms."

Having joined Wragge & Co's Pensions team as a newly qualified solicitor in 2001, Paul Carberry quickly established a reputation for providing technically excellent and commercially sound advice. He acts for the trustees and sponsors of UK pension schemes on all aspects of pensions law, such as funding, investment and governance issues.

He also leads the firm's six-lawyer Public Sector Pensions team; providing advice tailored to public sector organisations and the companies which do business with them. Typical work includes advising on the "Fair Deal" requirements, the pension issues involved in outsourcing projects and LGPS investment legal issues.

Paul Carberry said: "Big schemes, whether in the private or public sector, want the same thing – excellent legal advice and service rooted in an understanding of their organisation and the pressures it faces. Our partner-led, relationship-focused approach is geared towards providing exactly that advice and service."

Wragge & Co's Pensions team operates as a single team of experts from offices in London and Birmingham. Its 40 lawyers advise employers and pensions trustees on a full range of contentious, non-contentious and investment matters. In the past 12 months it has won a number of high-value new clients. These include the trustees of four Steria pension schemes with a combined value of £600 million, the trustee of the £1 billion Thales UK Pension Scheme and the £1.05 billion G4S Pension Scheme.

As at 1 May, the team's seven partners will be Glyn Ryland, Jason Coates, Paul Carberry, Paul Feathers, Peter Shave, Richard Black and Richard Lee.

Paul is one of three new partners promoted in 2010.
