Wragge & Co LLP has appointed a new intellectual property partner. Dr. Alexander Bayer becomes a partner in the firm's Munich office on 1 May, taking the total number of partners in Wragge & Co's international IP practice to 10.

Head of IP Gordon Harris said: "Alex is a gifted lawyer and an excellent partner candidate. He has already played an important role in establishing our office in Munich, working alongside German and international colleagues to win new instructions and provide a consistently top-quality service to our clients."

IP and IT expert Alex Bayer specialises in contentious and non-contentious brand, design rights, competition, copyright, data protection and data protection compliance matters. He joined the firm from Jones Day in 2008.

His national and international client base includes automotive suppliers, financial service providers, food producers, white goods manufacturers and entertainment companies. Examples are Intertainment AG, OPIUM effect GmbH, Active Audio GmbH, Wirecard AG and Aran Candy Ltd.

Alex Bayer said: "Wragge & Co is among the top names for IP work. Clients like that we take time to understand their businesses and priorities because it means all our advice is rooted in their commercial reality. IP is a global practice area and Wragge & Co has the cross-border experience and expertise to help."

Wragge & Co is a major commercial law firm providing a full range of legal services to private and public sector organisations worldwide. In 2007 the firm opened a dedicated IP office in Guangzhou, China. It followed this with a new IP office in Munich in 2008. Associate Dr. Frauke Bronsema joined the Munich office in October 2009.

With experts in Europe and China, Wragge & Co's 36-lawyer IP team advises national and international clients on a full range of contentious and non-contentious matters. Areas of expertise include patent, trade mark, copyright, design right, defamation, advertising and marketing laws.

Last year, Managing Intellectual Property magazine named the firm European High Tech Law Firm of the Year. Clients include Astra Zeneca, Birds Eye, Eisai and United Biscuits.

Alex Bayer is one of three new partners promoted in 2010.
