Fraudulent emails - Shitta Bey

02.09.10

Wragge & Co is aware that over recent weeks many people have been receiving fraudulent emails purporting to involve "Barrister Shitta Bey" who claims to be a member of this firm.

No such person works for Wragge & Co. So far as we are aware, the scam works as follows.

A property is advertised to let, and once a prospective tenant contacts the landlord, the prospective tenant is asked to transfer a significant amount of money to a third party.

The "Landlord" will state that evidence of this transfer is required upfront by "his Barrister Shitta Bey" and will provide an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement and Refund Policy Agreement allegedly prepared by Barrister Shitta Bey/Wragge & Co. The fraudster then uses the evidence of the transfer to collect the money.

These emails are fraudulent. Wragge & Co has no knowledge of, or involvement with, the purported lettings. If you receive such an email, we suggest that you report the matter to your local police and do not send any money, provide the details of any transfer or supply your bank details.
